TheInternational Electrotechnical Commision (IEC)has developed an internationally applicable testingstandard for electric motorsand a classification scheme withfour levels of motor efficiency.
The IE-code and its efficiency levels create a basic vocabulary for governments to determine the efficiency level for their minimum energy performance standards (MEPS).
Which motors are affected?
InEurope IE3 standad is mandatory since the1st of January 2017,alternatively it is posible to use a IE2 motor in combination with a frequency converter for all motors from 0,75 kW up to 375 kW.
The IE3 standard represents acontribution to the Directive for energy efficiency 2012/27/UE, wich takes part into the 2020 strategy. According to this strategy, the energy consumption must be reduced a 20% and the renewable energies quote should increase in a 20% for 2020. The benefits that an IE3 motor offer are:
